A process for producing glycerin is comprised of the steps of: (1) contacting a fat with water at a temperature and pressure sufficient to produce hydrolyzed fat and a sweet water stream comprised of water, fat and glycerin; (2) introducing the sweet water stream into a vertical constant temperature zone and heating the sweet water stream to a temperature of at least 200 ~C; (3) allowing sweet water stream of step (2) to separate into a top layer comprised of fat and a bottom layer comprised of glycerin and water while maintaining a temperature of the two layers of at least about 200 ~C for a period of time sufficient to deactivate the prions; (4) separating the glycerin from the water.

L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à produire de la glycérine consistant: (1) à mettre en contact un gras avec de l'eau à une température et à une pression suffisante à produire du gras hydrolysé et un flux d'eau douce constitué d'eau, de gras et de glycérine; (2) à introduire le flux d'eau douce dans une zone verticale à température constante et à chauffer ce flux d'eau douce à une température d'au moins 200· C; (3) à permettre au flux d'eau douce de l'étape (2) de se séparer en une couche supérieure comprenant du gras et une couche inférieure comprenant de la glycérine et de l'eau tout en maintenant la température des deux couches à au moins environ 200· C durant une période suffisante pour désactiver les prions; et (4) à séparer la glycérine de l'eau.
