GECAN3069 DRYER SAFETY CONTROL SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed a belt tensioning assembly and power disconnect system for terminating operation of a clothes dryer upon breakage of the dryer drum drive belt. The dryer has a switch mounted in the dryer in circuit with the dryer motor and heater coil An actuating lever is provided for actuating the switch to de-energize the motor. The actuating lever has first and second side lever members and an intermediate pivoting member between the side lever members. The first side lever member is normally positioned adjacent to the switch with the second side lever member normally positioned to intercept the belt tensioning assembly as it moves to a relaxed position when the belt breaks. When the second lever member intercepts the assembly it causes the intermediate pivoting member to pivot and to bias the first side lever member into engagement with the switch actuator to de-energize the motor.
