A covered roll structure (10) employed in the manufacture of a paper machine roll (20) comprises a core roll having a substantially cylindrical outer surface, a sleeve (30) of removable material surrounding the core roll outer surface, a sleeve of compressible material surrounding the sleeve of removable material (30), and a sleeve (50) of polymeric material surrounding the sleeve (40) of compressible material and the sleeve of removable material (30).
