Fill and pressurization apparatus having a sectional fluid conductor (27) having a first section (27a) fixed relative to the surroundings, and a second section (27b) which moves toward the first section (27) to form an enclosure (Fig. 2) through which a high volume flow rate - low pressure flow may be passed to fill an adjacent open end of a tube (17) with liquid. Said fluid is passed through an inlet conduit (38), which may be a rigid conduit, to the fixed first section (27a). A seal head (77) insertable into the end of the filled tube (17) has an elastomeric seal member (87) and a rod (76) and a sleeve (78) relatively axially displaceable to compress the seal member (82) and deform it into sealing engagement with a surface of the tube (17). A stop member (84) on one of the rod (76) and sleeve (78) and a stop surface (81a) on the other of the rod (76) and sleeve (78) limit the axial displacement and hence also the compressive force applied to the seal member (82). The relative displacement is achieved by retracting one of the rod (76) and the sleeve (78) and blocking the retraction of the other. The blocking is provided by two telescoping cylinders (89 and 96), one (96) of which has abutments (99) thereon running in channels (101) provided in the other cylinder (89). To effect blocking one cylinder (96) is rotated relative to the other so that the abutments (99) are out of register with the channels (101) and engage stop surfaces (103) in an extended condition of the cylinders (89 and 96) relative to one another.
