An opening device externally fitted to the top surface (1) of a package is described, with a lower part (3) which is provided with an approximately annular welding flange (4), and a sealing pan (6) moveable relative thereto, with the aid of which a sealing area (10) of the top surface can be torn away for opening. In order that the opening device can be manufactured more simply from atechnical point of view and more inexpensively, and can be opened more easily and re-closed properly, it is provided according to the invention that the lower pan (3) is provided inside the welding flange (4) with an approximately annular tearing edge (16) narrowing downwards towards the sealing area (10), and the sealing pan (6) is configured approximately cup-shaped and its base (8) can be arranged inside the tearing edge (16) and is sealed by the sealing area (10).
