Amphoteric derivatives of aliphatic polyamines, such as diethylenetriamine or triethylenetetramine reacted with long chain fatty acids, esters or triglycerides from various natural or synthetic sources are effective in the softening/texture modification of substrates such as paper, textiles, human skin surfaces and hair tresses, as well as in applications for metal working and lubrication. The polyamines are first reacted with fatty acids, esters or triglycerides derived from various animal, vegetable or synthetic sources ranging in molecular distribution from butyric through erucic acids (e.g. milkfat, soy bean oil, rapeseed oil) to form diamides or imidazolines; they are then further reacted with unsaturated or halogenated carboxylic acids, carboxylated epoxy compounds or acid anhydrides (e.g. acrylic acid, itaconic acid, chloroacetic acid, maleic anhydrides octadecenyl anhydride) to form the various amphoteric structures.

L'invention concerne des dérivés amphotères de polyamines aliphatiques, du type diéthylènetriamine ou triéthylènetriamine, ayant réagi avec des acides gras, des esters ou des triglycérides à chaîne longue d'origines naturelles ou synthétiques diverses, qui sont efficaces pour le ramollissement/la modification de texture sur des substrats comme le papier, les textiles, la surface de la peau humaine et les tresses de cheveux, mais aussi dans les applications de l'industrie transformatrice des métaux et la lubrification. On fait d'abord réagir les polyamines avec des acides gras, des esters ou des triglycérides de différentes origines animales, végétales ou synthétiques à répartition moléculaire allant de l'acide butyrique à l'acide érucique (par exemple, matière grasse du lait, huile de soja, huile de colza) pour obtenir des diamides ou des imidazolines. Ensuite, on engage une réaction de ces produits avec des acides carboxyliques non saturés ou halogénés, des composés époxy carboxylés ou des anhydrides acides (par exemple, acide acrylique, acide itaconique, acide chloroacétique, anhydride maléique, octadécénylanhydride), de manière à constituer différentes structures amphotères.
