In accordance with the invention, a dental implant comprises a body portion and a head portion. The body portion includes a tip portion which is remote from the head portion, a lead thread portion adjacent the tip portion, an intermediate thread portion adjacent the lead thread portion and a distal thread portion which is adjacent to the head portion. The dental implant further includes a central bore within the head portion. There is a thread within the bore for receiving a dental prosthesis. The tip portion comprises at least one cutting edge for cutting bone as the implant is rotated. The body portion includes at least one flute. The flute has a first end adjacent to the at least one cutting edge. for assisting removal of bone cuttings from the cutting edge. In a more preferred embodiment of the invention, the implant includes at least two cutting edges and at least two flutes. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the flutes extend distally toward the head portion, but terminate at the end of the intermediate portion so that the distal thread portion does not have any portion thereof containing a fluted surface.

La présente invention a trait à un implant dentaire comportant une portion de corps et une portion de tête. La portion de corps comprend une portion de pointe qui est éloignée de la portion de tête, une portion de filet d'amorçage adjacente à la portion de pointe, et une portion de filet intermédiaire adjacente à la portion de filet d'amorçage et une portion de filet distale qui est adjacente à la portion de tête. L'implant dentaire comporte en outre un alésage central au sein de la portion de tête. A l'intérieur de l'alésage se trouve un filetage destiné à la réception d'une prothèse dentaire. La portion de pointe comporte au moins un tranchant destiné à la découpe d'os lors de la rotation de l'implant. La portion de corps comprend au moins une cannelure. La cannelure comprend une première extrémité adjacente à au moins un tranchant pour aider à l'enlèvement des chutes de découpe osseuse du tranchant. Dans le mode de réalisation préféré de l'invention, l'implant inclut au moins deux tranchants et au moins deux cannelures. Dans un mode de réalisation particulièrement préféré, les cannelures s'étendent en éloignement vers la portion de tête, mais se terminent à l'extrémité de la portion intermédiaire de sorte que la portion de filet distale ne contienne en aucune partie une surface cannelée.
