An apparatus and method for augmenting cardiac function. Dimension characteristics of the heart are modified cyclically by engaging a linkage between at least two points on the myocardium (51) of the heart and cyclically varying the length of the linkage. This controls the spacing between the engaged parts of the myocardium (5I), thereby improving cardiac function. The linkage may extend across the left ventricular cavity (1) or between points spaced apart around the left ventricular cavity (1).

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant d'augmenter la fonction cardiaque. Les caractéristiques dimensionnelles du coeur sont modifiées cycliquement en introduisant un lien entre au moins deux points du myocarde (51) du coeur, et en faisant varier cycliquement la longueur du lien. Ceci permet de réguler l'espace entre les parties introduites du myocarde (51), en améliorant ainsi la fonction cardiaque. Le lien peut s'étendre en travers de la cavité (1) ventriculaire gauche ou entre des points séparés autour de la cavité (1) du ventricule gauche.
