A method for treating a patient for adult-onset dementia of the Alzheimer's type by removing a portion of the patient's cerebrospinal fluid, preferably (although not necessarily) by transporting the fluid to another portion of the patient's body. The invention also provides an apparatus for removing cerebrospinal fluid including (I) a conduit (2) with a first opening and a second opening, the first opening of the conduit (2) being adapted to be disposed in fluid communication with a space within a patient's subarachnoid space (6), the second opening being adapted to be disposed in fluid communication with another portion of the patient's body; and (II) a flow rate control device (10) attached to the conduit(2).
Procédé de traitement d'un patient souffrant de la démence de l'adulte du type Alzheimer, consistant à enlever un partie du liquide céphalo-rachidien du patient, de préférence (mais pas nécessairement) par transport du fluide vers une autre partie du corps du patient. L'invention concerne également un appareil destiné à enlever le liquide céphalo-rachidien, comprenant (I) un conduit (2) doté d'une première et d'une seconde ouverture, la première ouverture du conduit (2) étant conçue pour être mise en communication fluidique avec un espace situé dans l'espace sous-arachnoïdien (6) du patient, la seconde ouverture étant conçue pour être mise en communication fluidique avec une autre partie du corps du patient; et (II) un dispositif de régulation de débit (10) fixé au conduit (2).
