A protective garment (10) having an outer shell (26) and an inner liner (28) functioning as a thermal barrier and moisture barrier made of a fire- retardant, apertured or non-apertured closed-cell foam material (29). The closed-cell foam liner (28) is moisture resistant and at the same time provides adequate thermal insulation. In a first embodiment, the moisture resistance of the foam liner (28) eliminates the need for a separate moisture barrier, and allows the liner (28) to be bonded directly to the outer shell (26). However, in a preferred embodiment, the inner liner (28) is separate from the shell (26) and includes a fabric substrate (66) of an aramid fiber to which it is bonded. The fabric substrate faces the wearer and prevents abrasion of the foam (29) by the wearer and enhances the tear strength of the foam (29). In an second preferred embodiment, the garment includes a moisture barrier layer (64) positioned between the foam liner (28) and the wearer of the garment (10).
Vêtement protecteur (10) présentant une enveloppe extérieure (26) ainsi qu'une doublure intérieure (28) faisant office de barrière thermique et de barrière d'humidité constituées d'une matière (29) en mousse à alvéoles fermées ignifuge, ajourée ou non-ajourée. La doublure (28) en mousse à alvéoles fermées résiste à l'humidité et en même temps assure une isolation thermique adéquate. Dans un premier mode de réalisation, la résistance à l'humidité de la doublure (28) en mousse ne nécessite pas la présence d'une barrière d'humidité séparée et permet de lier la doublure (28) directement à l'enveloppe extérieure (26). Toutefois, dans un mode de réalisation préféré, la doublure intérieure (28) est séparée de l'enveloppe (26) et comporte un substrat en tissu (66) en fibre d'aramide auquel elle est liée. Le substrat en tissu se trouve du côté de l'utilisateur et empêche l'abrasion de la mousse (29) par ce dernier, il améliore la résistance à la déchirure de la mousse (29). Dans un second mode de réalisation préféré, le vêtement comporte une couche (64) de barrière d'humidité positionnée entre la doublure en mousse (28) et l'utilisateur du vêtement (10).
