An orthopaedic implant having a porous metal surface in a preferred embodiment, the implant comprises three layers including a biocompatible metal core of desired shape, a polymer intermediary layer, and a surface layer comprising a porous biocompatible metal, shaped appropriately to act as the surface of an orthopaedic implant is provided. The core and the pad are placed in an injection molding device wherein a polymer intermediary layer is injection molded between the pad and the metal core, thereby bonding the pad to the metal core.

Le mode de réalisation privilégié de cette invention porte sur un implant orthopédique présentant une surface métallique poreuse. L'implant est constitué des trois couches suivantes : une structure métallique biocompatible de la forme désirée au centre, une couche intermédiaire en polymère et une couche externe composée d'un métal biocompatible poreux, lesquelles forment la surface d'un implant orthopédique. Le centre et la plaquette sont placés dans un dispositif de moulage par injection dans lequel la couche intermédiaire en polymère est moulée par injection entre la plaquette et la partie centrale en métal, ce qui lie la plaquette à la partie centrale en métal.
