A process for separating a pulp fiber from a suspended matter in a liquid phase and recovering said fiber therefrom in a flotation stage, the process comprising introducing at least a portion of a carbon dioxide containing gas into an air stream directed to said flotation stage to form an air bubble thereby, said air bubble attaching to said fiber and rises to the surface of said liquid phase while said suspended matter settles in said liquid phase.
