The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for adjusting bandwidth utilisation between a group of different participating users accessing client terminals (40-46) in a common media event in a computer network (5). The apparatus com-prises a distributing unit (10) adapted to distribute address information and band-width limitation to the participating users connectable via the computer network to the common media event from their respective client terminals. Moreover, the dis-tributing unit is hosted from a central administration entity (30) and connecting links (70-76) are adapted to connect each client terminals of participating users via the Internet or any other global interconnecting network to the distributing unit. Meas-urement means (20-26) are provided in association with the client terminals to measure incoming data streams from other users. The invention is characterised in that the distributed bandwidth limitation is provided to the client terminals to allow them to compare the incoming data streams therewith, in response to which the cli-ent terminals autonomously adjust their amount of transmission to a level that al-lows for optimal utilisation of available resources during transmission.
La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé pour répartir l'utilisation d'une bande passante entre un groupe de différents utilisateurs accédant à des terminaux clients (40-46) pour participer à un événement médiatique collectif dans un réseau d'ordinateurs (5). Le système comprend une unité de répartition (10) adaptée pour répartir des données d'adresse et une limitation de la bande passante aux utilisateurs participants qui peuvent se connecter, par le biais du réseau d'ordinateurs, à l'événement médiatique collectif, à partir de leurs terminaux clients respectifs. De plus, l'unité de répartition est hébergée par un organe d'administration centrale (30), et des liens de connexion (70-76) sont adaptés pour relier chaque terminal client des utilisateurs participants à l'unité de répartition, par le biais d'Internet ou de tout autre réseau d'interconnexion mondial. Des moyens de mesure (20-26) sont fournis, en association avec les terminaux clients, pour mesurer les flux de données entrants provenant d'autres utilisateurs. L'invention se caractérise en ce que la limitation de la bande passante répartie est fournie aux terminaux clients pour leur permettre de comparer les flux de données entrants, après quoi les terminaux clients règlent de manière autonome leur débit d'émission à un niveau permettant une utilisation optimale des ressources disponibles pendant l'émission.
