ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A can crusher for flattening cylindrical cans comprises a base, a standard secured to and extending from the base substantially at right angles thereto, a tubular receptacle secured to the standard for axial movement toward and away from the base parallel to the standard, the receptacle having an open bottom end for introducing a can to be crushed into the receptacle, a closed upper end having an axial bore therein, a plunger disposed in the bore for axial movement therein, the plunger having an inner end disposed within the receptacle and an outer end disposed outwardly of the receptacle, a ram secured to the inner end of the plunger, a cap secured to the outer end of the plunger, and a can deforming mechanism secured to the receptacle for inwardly deforming opposed sides of a can disposed within the receptacle prior to axially crushing the can with the ram.
