A method and apparatus for joining a user to a call in a group communication network provides for receiving an indication from a user who wishes to initiate a group call and sending a request to a server to add the user to the group call if the group call is in progress. The method and apparatus also provides for announcing the group call to the user, receiving acknowledgement from the user who wishes to participate in the announced group call, and forwarding media to the user after its traffic channel is re-established. The method and apparatus also provides for a significant reduction in the actual total dormancy wakeup time and latency by exchanging group call signaling even when mobiles are dormant and no traffic channel is active.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil assurant la jonction d'un utilisateur à un appel dans un réseau de communication de groupe mettant en oeuvre la réception d'une indication qu'un utilisateur désire débuter un appel de groupe et l'envoi d'une requête à un serveur afin d'ajouter l'utilisateur à l'appel de groupe si cet appel est en cours. Le procédé et l'appareil permettent aussi d'annoncer l'appel de groupe à l'utilisateur, à recevoir l'accusé de réception de l'utilisateur qui désire participer à l'appel de groupe annoncé, et d'acheminer le contenu à l'utilisateur lorsque sa ligne de trafic est rétablie. Le procédé et l'appareil permettent aussi de réduire de façon importante le temps et la latence réveil-dormance totaux réels par échange de signalisation d'appel de groupe même lorsque des mobiles sont en sommeil et qu'aucun canal de trafic n'est actif.
