Apparatus and a device for monitoring fluid which is substantially transparent to at least one frequency of light, which utilizes an impeller, [which in a preferred embodiment is a helical screw] located within a passage or conduit, to break a beam of light passing through the fluid as the impeller is turned by the flow of fluid. A light sensor is further provided to count the number of time the beam is broken within a certain time frame, thereby allowing the rate of flow to be calculated from a calibration of the number of turns of the impeller in relation to the rate of fluid flow through the conduit.
Appareil et dispositif pour surveiller un fluide qui est essentiellement transparent à au moins une fréquence de lumière. L'invention fait appel à une couronne mobile qui, dans une application préférée, est une vis hélicoïdale logée à l'intérieur d'un conduit ou d'un passage afin de briser un faisceau de lumière passant à travers le fluide lorsque l'écoulement du fluide fait tourner la couronne mobile. L'appareil comprend également un capteur de lumière servant à compter le nombre de fois que le faisceau est brisé au cours d'un certain laps de temps, ce qui permet ainsi de calculer le débit d'écoulement à partir d'un étalon correspondant à un nombre de tours réalisés par la couronne mobile en regard d'un débit donné d'écoulement du fluide dans le conduit.
