A method and system for sending (404) and receiving (406) Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) in electronic mail over the Internet. An electronic mail document containing a URL may have several different types. If the message type (408) indicates a URL, when the received URL type document is read or browsed using a multimedia Internet browser, the URL is looked up so that the information corresponding to the URL is displayed (420) without necessarily displaying any portion of the received message. If the received document is of the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) type, the document may be displayed (430) and a user may "click" on the URL to look up the information corresponding to the URL (432). If the received document is of the text type, the text may be converted to the HTML format (440) and the HTML format document displayed (442) so that a user may "click" on the URL in order to look up the information corresponding to the URL without the need to type in the URL address (444).
Procédé et système permettant d'envoyer (404) et de recevoir (406) des localisateurs de ressources uniformes (URL) par courrier électronique dans Internet. Un document de courrier électronique contenant un URL peut être de différents types. Si le type de message (408) est un URL, lorsque le document de type URL est lu ou survolé au moyen d'un outil de survol multimédia Internet, l'URL est consulté, et l'information correspondant à l'URL est affichée (402) sans qu'aucune partie du message reçu soit nécessairement affichée. Si le document reçu est du type Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), le document peut être affiché (430) et un utilisateur peut cliquer sur l'URL pour consulter l'information correspondant à l'URL (432). Si le document reçu est du type texte, ce texte peut être converti au format HTML (440) et le document en format HTML sera affiché (442), ce qui permettra à l'utilisateur de cliquer sur l'URL afin de consulter l'information correspondant à l'URL sans avoir besoin d'entrer l'adresse de l'URL (444).
