The use of water-soluble salts of doubly or triply charged cations in immunochemical methods for the detec- tion and for the determination of an analyte in a sample is described. It is shown that these salts increase the specificity of such determinations, in particular the background signal is reduced by the addition of one of the said salts in solid-phase immunochemical methods in which the analyte is detected on a solid phase.
