A device is disclosed to treat the effects of macular degeneration, and other eye disorders by increasing the optical effect of the retinal surface (140) of the eye (100). The device comprises a body (200a)-(200n) with a shape prescribed to increase the depth of the fovea (170), and in the process make the sides of the clivus (175) more convex, thereby utilizing the varying optical properties of the retinal area. A suitable association of this device with the eye will cause an image beam traveling from the lens (130) through the vitreous humor (155) to magnify, and impinge an image perception area encompassing the macula (145). According to one advantageous embodiment, the device includes a body adapted for association with the eye to manipulate the retina of the eye to effectively augment the photoreceptor cells (165) proximate the macula of the eye. The body of the device may be that of a band, a segment, a partial band, a plate, or any shape suitably adapted to perform the functions described herein to treat the effects of macular degeneration as well as other eye disorders.
L'invention concerne un dispositif conçu pour le traitement des effets de la dégénérescence maculaire et d'autres troubles oculaires grâce à l'augmentation de l'effet optique de la surface rétinienne (140) de l'oeil (100). Le dispositif comporte un corps (200a)-(200n) d'une forme conçue pour augmenter la profondeur de la fovéa (170) et rendre de ce fait les côtés du clivus (175) plus convexes, par l'utilisation des propriétés optiques changeantes de la surface rétinienne. Une association appropriée de ce dispositif et de l'oeil amènera le grossissement d'un faisceau image, se déplaçant du cristallin (130) au travers de l'humeur vitrée (155), et son impact sur la surface de perception de l'image qui comprend la macula (145). Selon un mode de réalisation avantageux, le dispositif comporte un corps qui, associé à l'oeil, est adapté pour la manipulation de la rétine et vise à augmenter de façon efficace les cellules photoréceptrices (165) proches de la macula. Le corps du dispositif peut avoir la forme d'une bande, d'un segment, d'une bande partielle, d'une plaque, ou toute forme adéquatement adaptée pour exécuter les fonctions décrites ci-dessus visant à traiter les effets de la dégénérescence maculaire, ainsi que d'autres troubles oculaires.
