An ink jet or other printer serves to print for each row of input pixels, two superimposed rows of contiguous "super pixels", each print pixel being capable of receiving print contributions from N super pixels. The super pixels are twice the width of the input pixels and one row of super pixels is offset by half a super pixel width from the next row of super pixels. Redundancy is thus provided against the loss of a print element. The effects of smoothing of an image are reduced by edge enhancement processes.

Selon l'invention, une imprimante à jet d'encre ou une autre imprimante sert à imprimer, pour chaque rangée de pixels d'entrée, deux rangées superposées de <= super pixels >= contigus, chaque pixel d'impression pouvant recevoir des contributions d'impression de super pixels N. Les super pixels sont deux fois plus larges que les pixels d'entrée. Une rangée de super pixels est décalée par la moitié de la largeur d'un super pixel de la rangée suivante de super pixels. La redondance sert à se prémunir contre la perte d'un élément imprimé. Les effets de lissage d'une image sont réduits par des procédés d'amélioration du bord.
