Method and apparatus is described for removing oxygen from a can (12) and frothy head inducing capsule (10) of a lightweight two piece can beverage pack storing alcoholic beverage under gaseous pressure. The method involves evacuating the can and the capsule combination and purging with an inert gas such as Nitrogen and retaining the purged condition of the capsule and of the can by filling the can with water. Just before the can is to be filled the can is inverted to pour the water away and is washed in a conventional manner and re- inverted ready for filling. The method may be by marshalling cans on a conveyor and purging a large number of cans simultaneously in a batch first of all to the evacuation, then the purging step and then the water filling step. Two batch purging units (94, 96) may be provided and operated out of synchronism to provide a continuous supply of purged cans partly filled with water ready for feeding to the can washing (56) and filling (64) facility. Alternative apparatus involves injecting Nitrogen gas in liquid or gaseous form into the capsule before or after it is inserted into the can and plugging the hole made by the filling device (24) so as to retain the gas charge within the capsule.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant d'enlever l'oxygène d'une boîte (12) et d'un dispositif produisant de la mousse (10), ces derniers constituant un conditionnement léger de boissons en boîte en deux parties dans lequel une boisson alcoolisée est conservée sous pression gazeuse. Ledit procédé consiste à faire le vide dans l'ensemble boîte et dispositif de production de mousse, et à le purger à l'aide d'un gaz inerte tel que de l'azote, puis à maintenir la purge dudit dispositif et de la boîte par remplissage de celle-ci avec de l'eau. Ladite boîte est renversée juste avant son remplissage de manière à évacuer l'eau, et elle est lavée selon une technique classique puis à nouveau renversée pour le remplissage. Ledit procédé peut être automatisé, auquel cas les boîtes sont acheminées sur un convoyeur vers le poste d'évacuation d'air, vers le poste de purge et vers le poste de remplissage d'eau de manière à être purgées simultanément en lots. Deux unités de purge par lots (94, 96) peuvent être prévues et exploitées de manière asynchrone afin d'assurer un flux continu de boîtes purgées partiellement remplies d'eau prêtes à être envoyées au poste de lavage (56) et de remplissage (64). Dans un autre mode de réalisation, de l'azote liquide ou gazeux est envoyé dans le dispositif de production de mousse avant ou après que celui-ci soit inséré dans la boîte, et l'orifice fait par le dispositif de remplissage (24) est bouché de sorte que la charge de gaz reste dans le dispositif de production de mousse.
