In a method of charging fine-grained metals, in particular directly reduced iron (DRI), into an electric-arc furnace (1), the metal is supplied via a downpipe (12) to an opening (10) provided in the furnace roof (4), is introduced into the furnace (1) through this opening (10) as bulk material stream (11), and falls onto the melt (13) merely by grav ity. Further, an electric-arc furnace (1) suited for this purpose is described. A rather loss- free introduction even of fine-grained material having a mean grain size of less than 1 mm is achieved by passing the bulk material stream (11) through a dosing orifice (8) after the downpipe (12) and before entering the furnace (1). The bulk material stream (11 ) then enters the furnace essentially undisturbed.

L'invention concerne un procédé de chargement de métaux à grain fin, en particulier du fer de réduction directe, dans un four à arc électrique (1), qui comporte les étapes consistant à : amener le métal par l'intermédiaire d'un tuyau de descente (12) vers une ouverture (10) prévue dans le toit du four (4) ; introduire le métal dans le four (1) par cette ouverture (10) sous forme d'écoulement (11) de matériau en vrac, lequel tombe sur le bain de fusion (13) principalement par gravité. L'invention concerne en outre un four à arc électrique (1) utile à cet effet. On peut ainsi introduire dans le four, pratiquement sans pertes, un matériau à grain fin présentant une taille moyenne des grains inférieure à 1 mm, en faisant passer l'écoulement (11) de matériau à travers un orifice (8) de dosage, qui se situe en aval du tuyau de descente (12) et en amont du four (1). L'écoulement (11) pénètre ensuite dans le four essentiellement sans turbulences.
