The method and apparatus are useful in positioning components for example two half shells of a clamp for a pipeline or other cylindrical member (10). One half-shell (12) is clamped by studs (56) to brackets (52) an a carriage (16) which can then traverse about the member (10) by engagement of sprockets (30, 28) with chains (18) encircling the member (10). A second half-shell is then lowered by crane unto the member (10). The two hail shells are clamped together by studs arid the brackets (52) released arid swung clear. The apparatus can then be removed if desired. Drive to the carriage (16) is through a flexible shaft (70), gearbox (34) and sprockets (30) connected together by drive shaft (33). Wheels (26) roll on the member (10).
Procédé et appareil utiles pour positionner des composants comme par exemple les deux demi-coques d'un collier de serrage pour une canalisation ou un autre élément cylindrique (10). Une demi-coque (12) est fixée, au moyen de boulons (56) sur des crochets (52) situés sur un chariot (16) qui peut alors traverser l'élément (10) grâce à la mise en prise des dents de pignon (30, 28) avec les chaînes (18) entourant l'élément (10). Une deuxième demi-coque est ensuite descendue par une grue sur l'élément (10). Les deux demi-coques sont fixées ensemble à l'aide de boulons et les crochets (52) sont libérés et oscillent librement. Si nécessaire, on peut alors retirer l'appareil. L'entraînement vers le chariot (16) s'effectue au moyen d'un flexible (70), d'une boîte de vitesses (34) et de dents de pignon connectées ensemble par un arbre d'entraînement (33). Des roues (26) roulent sur l'élément (10).
