(Translation) 70798-10 Dry filter for the treatment of water Abstract: Subject matter of the present invention is a dry filter for the treatment of water comprising an unsubmerged filter bed (16), the water to be treated trickling onto its exposed surface (18). The danger thereby exists that the impacting water will smash the material of the filter bed to pieces with the result that the destroyed material obstructs the exposed surface (18) of the filter bed (16) which leads to overdamming and to the cut-off of the air supply in biofilters. To avoid these disadvantages the exposed surface (18) of the filter bed (16) is covered with a layer of impact resistant balls (20), for example of plastic, which float during backwashing of the filter bed. The advantage of this solution is that the falling water is dispersed before impact by means of the balls (20), the water deflected off these balls seeping between them into the filter bed (16), thereby ruling out destruction of its exposed surface (18).
