In an environment of competitive local and interexchange carriers, offering number portability between local carriers serving a common region and between switches serving that region, each local carrier accesses a regional database to determine the identity of the carrier and switch serving a local customer. Inaddition, interexchange carriers access a national database to determine the identity of the carrier and switch serving the customer specified by the number dialed by an originating customer. For customers requiring high reliability service, alternate carriers can be used to serve such customers in case the primary carrier is unavailable; the databases identify these alternate carriers. Advantageously, this arrangement allows a high degree of freedom of movement of customers between carriers and geographic relocation without requiring a number change.
Dans un environnement où sont en concurrence des sociétés locales et des sociétés intercirconscription offrant des numéros transportables entre les sociétés locales desservant une même région et entre les commutateurs qui desservent cette région, chaque société locale a accès à une base de données régionale pour déterminer l'identité de la société et du commutateur qui desservent un client local. De plus, les sociétés intercirconscription ont accès à une base de données nationale pour déterminer l'identité de la société et du commutateur qui desservent le client désigné par le numéro composé par un client demandeur. Pour les clients nécessitant un service à grande fiabilité, des sociétés de rechange peuvent être utilisées pour desservir ces clients quand la société primaire n'est pas en mesure d'assurer le service; les bases de données identifient ces sociétés de rechange. Utilement, le dispositif de l'invention offre aux clients un grand choix entre les sociétés de communication, ainsi que la possibilité de se relocaliser géographiquement sans avoir à changer de numéro.
