A conventional pop-up drain plug is movable up and down by an actuator system to open and close the entry open- ing of a drain pipe. The plug includes a cap at one end to seal the opening, a base engagable by the actuator system, and an intermediate portion comprising a finned guide and a stem. An upwardly open strainer cup having a centrally aper- tured bottom is forced over the plug base and onto the stem. The cup includes small openings to pass drain water, and its rim is dimensioned to fit close to the drain pipe walls so that the cup will catch small articles passing through the drain pipe entry opening, while yet moving upwardly and downwardly with the drain plug.
