The invention provides apparatus for producing preselected lengths of rope from a supply of thermoplastic rope, and includes a rope feed system for advancing rope longitudinally along a rope path and a guillotine assembly coupled to the feed system. The guillotine assembly has a thermally conductive blade support mountedfor reciprocal movement orthogonally with respect to the rope path, and a thermally conductive blade removably attached to the blade support. The blade is in good thermal contact with the blade support and movable with the blade support between a first position clear of the rope path and a second position in which the bladecrossed the rope path. An electrical heating element is attached to the blade support to heat the support and thereby heat the blade to a temperature sufficient to fuse the rope locally. A blade actuator is coupled to the chassis and to the blade support for reciprocating the blade support and a control system is coupled to the rope feedsystem and to the guillotine assembly to actuate the rope feed assembly and the guillotine assembly. As a result, the blade engages the rope and applies heat so that the blade passes through the rope as the rope is softened and the sides of the blade fuse the rope ends to thereby fuse and sever the rope. The cycle is repeated in accordance with a counter in the control system and the lengths of the severed ropes are preselected in the control system.
Cette invention concerne un appareil servant à produire des longueurs prédéterminées de câble à partir d'une réserve de câble thermoplastique et comportant un dispositif dérouleur servant à acheminer le câble le long d'un plan longitudinal jusqu'à une cisaille guillotine couplé au dérouleur. La cisaille guillotine comporte un support de lame thermoconducteur animé d'un mouvement de va-et-vient dans un plan orthogonal au plan de progression du câble et une lame thermoconductrice fixée au support de lame. La lame est en contact étroit avec le support de lame pour réaliser une bonne conduction thermique et elle se déplace solidairement avec ledit support entre une position en retrait du plan de progression du câble et une deuxième position où elle coupe ce plan. Un élément chauffant électrique fixé au support de lame sert à chauffer celle-ci ainsi que la lame à une température suffisante pour entraîner la fusion localisée du câble. Un actionneur de lame couplé au châssis de l'appareil et au support de lame est asservie à un dispositif de commande connecté au dérouleur et à la cisaille guillotine de manière à coordonner le fonctionnement des deux. Abaissée par le support de lame, la lame guillotine applique de la chaleur au câble pour la ramollir, faciliter sa pénétration, la fondre de part et d'autre de la lame et réaliser la coupe complète. Le cycle de travail de l'appareil est répété à une cadence réglée sur la longueur de câble à découper, mesurée par un compteur faisant partie de l'appareil.
