A method of controlling access to a drug in an aerosol drug delivery device by an electronic lock and key means is disclosed. Access is limited to the intended user by providing the intended user with a uniquely coded, machine readable key means that matches the unique code of the lock means. Contacting matching lock and key means signals a controlling means to allow use of the device. Specifically, the method is applied to a method of pain control provided by the intrapulmonary delivery of a pharmaceutically active pain relief formulation. The formulation is automatically released from a hand held, self-contained, portable device (1) comprised of a means to automatically release a measured amount of drug into the inspiratory flow path (11) of a patient in response to information obtained from a means (21) for measuring, and separately determining inspiratory flow rate and inspiratory volume of a patient.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de contrôler l'accès à un médicament, dans un appareil de libération de médicaments sous la forme d'aérosols, grâce à un dispositif de verrouillage et à une clef électroniques. On limite l'accès à l'utilisateur prévu en remettant à celui-ci une clef à codage unique, lisible par la machine, qui correspond au code unique du dispositif de verrouillage. La mise en contact du dispositif de verrouillage et de la clef correspondants donne à un moyen de contrôle un signal autorisant l'utilisation de l'appareil. Plus particulièrement, le procédé est appliqué à une méthode de contrôle de la douleur constituée par l'apport intrapulmonaire d'une préparation analgésique active sur le plan pharmaceutique. La préparation est fournie automatiquement par un appareil (1) indépendant portable, tenu à la main, qui comporte un moyen de libération automatique d'une quantité dosée de médicament dans le flux inspiratoire (11) d'un patient en réaction à des informations reçues d'un moyen (21) servant à mesurer et à déterminer séparément le débit inspiratoire et le volume inspiratoire d'un patient.
