A beverage brewing machine and method of brewing a beverage are disclosed whereby the machine includes a brewing cylinder defining therein a brewing chamber. The brewing cylinder has an open lower end connected to a liquid pervious support surface received across the lower end. A substance to be brewed is placed on the liquid pervious support surface within the brewing chamber. A liquid inlet is connected to the brewing cylinder for filling the brewing chamber with a liquid to be brewed. A positive pressurizer is connected to the brewing cylinder for applying a positive pressure to the brewing chamber above the liquid pervious support surface in order to force hot liquid through the brewing substance and the support surface in order to brew a beverage.
