A tooling system comprises a plurality of elements arranged in an array, the elements of the array being movable between a closed position in which the elements contact one another and are secured in position, and an open position in which the elements of the array are spaced apart and are capable of vertical movement relative to one another, characterised in that the tooling system further comprises means for retaining the elements of the array in a plurality of different relative vertical alignments. A method of operating the tooling system is also described, which method of operating includes at least the steps of moving the elements of the array into a first vertical alignment, machining the free ends of the elements according to a predetermined pattern and moving the elements of the array into a second vertical alignment in which the machined ends of the elements produce a desired surface contour.
La présente invention concerne système d'outillage qui comprend une pluralité d'éléments agencés dans un réseau, les éléments de ce réseau étant mobiles entre une position fermée dans laquelle les éléments sont en contact entre eux et sont fixés en position et, une position ouverte dans laquelle les éléments de ce réseau sont espacés et sont capables d'effectuer un déplacement vertical les uns par rapport aux autres. Ce système se caractérise en ce qu'il comprend aussi des organes de retenue des éléments du réseau dans une pluralité d'alignement verticaux relatifs différents. Cette invention concerne aussi un procédé de fonctionnement de ce système d'outillage, ce procédé de fonctionnement consistant à déplacer les éléments du réseau dans un premier alignement vertical, à usiner les extrémités libres des éléments en fonction d'un motif prédéterminé et à déplacer l'élément du réseau dans un second alignement vertical dans laquelle les extrémités usinées des éléments produisent un profil de surface recherché.
