A combination of a physical filter (48) and an aerobic filter (72) positioned entirely on the outside of an aquarium tank is disclosed. Water is pumped via a pump (44) into a physical filtration chamber (48) and upon reaching a level above the chamber walls of the physical filter, it spills, by gravity flow, to both an aerobic filter (72) contained within the filtration housing (12), and back into the aquarium tank. The water entering the aerobic filter is filtered and passed back to the physical filter where the filtering is repeated.

L'invention concerne un filtre physique (48), et un filtre aérobie (72) combinés positionnés entièrement à l'extérieur de la cuve d'un aquarium. L'eau est pompée par l'intermédiaire d'une pompe (44) pour être amenée dans une chambre de filtration physique (48). Lorsque l'eau atteint un certain niveau au-dessus des parois de la chambre du filtre physique, elle se déverse par gravité vers un filtre aérobie (72) placé à l'intérieur du carter de filtration (12) et est également renvoyée dans la cuve de l'aquarium. L'eau pénétrant dans le filtre aérobie est filtrée et renvoyée au filtre aérobie où l'opération de filtration est répétée.
