A novel drill for the aerification of turf grasses is disclosed. The drill comprises a chuck and a fluted turf drill bit (10) held by the chuck. The chuck includes a locking mechanism which permits the chuck to rotate freely about its longitudinal axis when loaded in compression (as when the drill is inserted into the ground) but which locks, preventing rotation, when the drill is loaded in tension (such as when the drill is withdrawn from the soil). The drill bit (10) has a smooth upper section and a fluted lower section. The smooth section decreases the probability of entangling the turf in the drill bit (10) with subsequent lifting of the turf when the drill is withdrawn. The tip of the drill bit (10) is adapted to provide a torque to the drill bit (10) during insertion into the ground.
L'invention concerne une sondeuse pour l'aération de pelouse, qui comprend un mandrin et un foret cannelé tenu par le mandrin. Le mandrin comprend un mécanisme de verrouillage assurant la rotation libre du mandrin autour de son axe longitudinal au moment de la charge en compression (par exemple lorsque la sondeuse est introduite dans le sol), mais empêchant la rotation par verrouillage lorsque la sondeuse est chargée en tension (par exemple lorsque la sondeuse est retirée du sol). Le foret présente une partie supérieure lisse et une partie inférieure cannelée. La partie lisse diminue la probabilité d'emprisonnement de pelouse dans le foret, avec arrachement de pelouse au moment du retrait de la sondeuse. L'extrémité du foret assure un couple au foret durant l'introduction dans le sol, avec mouvement descendant en spirale à l'introduction mais verrouillage au retrait, permettant aux cannelures de découper un trou cylindrique, en retirant de la terre dans ce trou, avec maintien de cette terre dans l'espace compris entre les cannelures. On peut employer cette sondeuse dans les systèmes d'aération précédemment limités à l'utilisation de dents solides ou à coeur creux.
