A dental floss comprising a porous PTFE fiber having a density of less than about 0.7g/cc. The inventive floss is abrasion resistant, grippable and has a soft feel to the hands and a rough feel in the mouth. The floss is made by an extrusion process with non-contact heating during sub-sequent expansion with amorphous locking.

L'invention concerne un fil dentaire constitué d'une fibre de polytétrafluoroéthylène poreuse d'une densité inférieure à 0,7g/cc environ. Le fil selon l'invention est résistant à l'abrasion, facile à prendre entre les doigts, doux au toucher quoique rugueux au contact de la bouche. Le fil est fabriqué selon un procédé d'extrusion avec chauffage sans contact puis étirement avec blocage amorphe.
