A microphone arm assembly for vehicles is provided, whereby a microphone for wireless communications such as cellular telephones, or citizens'band or two-way radios, is installed in the vehicle in such a manner that the microphone may be selectively positionable near the mouth of the user so that the radio frequency operating device may be used for speech in a hands-free manner. The microphone arm assembly is folded up, out of the way, typically over the driver's door, and is adjusted by various pivotal and swivel movements,telescopic arm length extension, and by a gooseneck for final positioning of themicrophone in the region of the mouth of the driver. The voice signal wires, and power wires for the microphone when it is a condenser microphone, pass through the microphone arm assembly so as to provide radio frequency shielding therefor. The microphone arm assembly is mounted on a non-conductive base so that it is electrically isolated from the body of the vehicle, and so as to preclude hum due to ground loops occurring in the audio frequency portions of the telephone or radio installation in the vehicle. A clip is provided so that the microphone arm assembly may be removably installed in the vehicle without the necessity for drilling holes, by being mounted to door trim or the head liner ofthe vehicle. Superior voice transmission from the vehicle to the party being called is achieved, in a hands-free operating mode, without obscuring the driver's vision.
