A method for predicting the grain size distribution at a designated location within a water-lain sedimentary deposit (50) with steps of determining the vertical thickness of the sedimentary deposit at the designated location as well as the vertical thickness and grain size distribution at a second location different from the designated location (52) and determining the distance parameter corresponding to the two locations. And finally the distance parameter is used with the initially determined vertical thickness at both locations and the grain size distribution at the second location is used to calculate the grain size distribution at the designated location (52).

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé de prédiction de la granulométrie en un endroit désigné à l'intérieur d'un dépôt sédimentaire aquatique. On doit d'abord déterminer l'épaisseur verticale du dépôt sédimentaire à l'endroit désigné, ainsi que l'épaisseur verticale et la granulométrie en un second endroit différent de l'endroit désigné. On doit ensuite déterminer un paramètre de distance correspondant à ces deux endroits. On utilise enfin ce paramètre de distance, associé aux valeurs initialement déterminées relatives à l'épaisseur verticale aux deux endroits et à la granulométrie au second endroit, afin de calculer la granulométrie à l'endroit désigné.
