The invention relates to the field of biology, genetics and medicine. In particular, the invention relates to novel methods for the detection, characterisation and/or treatment (or management) of neurodegenerative pathologies. The invention also relates to methods for the identification or screening of compounds active in the aforementioned pathologies. The invention is based on the identification of the role of phosphodiesterase 4B, the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor (PBR) and GABA(A)-type GABA receptors in neurodegenerative pathologies. La présente invention concerne le domaine de la biologie, de la génétique et de la médecine. Elle concerne notamment de nouvelles méthodes pour la détection, la caractérisation et/ou le traitement (ou la prise en charge) de pathologies neurodégénératives. L'invention concerne également des méthodes pour l'identification ou le criblage de composés actifs dans ces pathologies. L'invention concerne également les composés, gènes, cellules, plasmides ou compositions utiles pour la mise en oeuvre des méthodes ci-dessus. L'invention découle notamment de l'identification du rôle de la phosphodiestérase 4B du récepteur périphérique aux benzodiazépines(PBR) et des récepteurs au GABA de type GABA(A) dans les pathologies neurodégénératives et décrit leur utilisation comme cible ou marqueur thérapeutique, diagnostique ou expérimental de ces désordres.
