The present disclosure relates to isolation and characterization of PjGST gene from Prosopis juHflora and a method for producing abiotic stress tolerant transgenic plant, more specifically salt and/or drought stress tolerant plant by expression of the gene in rice, tobacco and other plant species. The present disclosure also provides transformed plant, plant cells, plant tissue, plant part, seed, or progeny thereof with enhanced expression of PjGST gene to confer salt and/or drought stress tolerance.

L'invention concerne l'isolation et la caractérisation du gènePjGST issu de la Prosopis juliflora ainsi qu'un procédé de production d'une plante transgénique tolérante au stress abiotique, et plus spécifiquement une plante tolérante au stress du sel et/ou de la sécheresse, qui consiste à exprimer ce gène dans le riz, le tabac et dans d'autres espèces végétales. Par ailleurs, l'invention concerne une plante, des cellules végétales, un tissu végétal, une partie de plante, des semences, ou leurs descendances, transformés, qui présentent une expression améliorée du gène PjGST capable de leur conférer une tolérance au stress du le sel et/ou de la sécheresse.
