1 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE BAG TYING MACHINE A bag tying machine consists of an adhesive tape supply reel (17), a tie forming mechanism for applying adhesive tape (38) from the supply reel (17) to the gathered together end of a filled bag to form an adhesive tape tie, an adhesive tape path leading from the supply reel (17) to the tie forming mechanism and a printer (18). This printer includes a print head which engages and prints onto the non-adhesive side of the adhesive tape (38) and a belt (27) which is located on the other side of the adhesive tape path from the print head, which engages the adhesive side of the adhesive tape (38), and around the downstream end of which the adhesive tape path turns. The belt (27) is supported by freely rotatable rollers (28,29) which are mounted on a slidable carriage (31) which is movable along in the direction of the adhesive tape path through the printer. The movement of the carriage (31) adjusts the length of the adhesive tape path between the printer (18) and the tie forming mechanism to vary the location of the printing on the completed adhesive tape ties.
