A crawler track assembly including an endless crawler track including a plurality of shoes, with each pair of adjacent shoes being pivotally connected such that the crawler track is movable around an endless path, each shoe including an inwardly extending drive lug having a forward-drive surface and a top surface, and a tumbler for moving the track around the endless path, the tumbler including a central body rotatable about a central axis of rotation, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced tumbler lugs extending radially from the body, each tumbler lug including a forward-drive surface, and the tumbler also including, between each pair of adjacent tumbler lugs, a radially outwardly facing root surface, the tumbler engaging the track such that rotation of the tumbler in a forward direction causes the forward-drive surfaces of the tumbler lugs to drivingly engage the forward-drive surfaces of the shoe drive lugs so as to move the track around the endless path, the root surfaces of the tumbler engaging the top surfaces of the shoe drive lugs to maintain the proper location of the shoes radially of the tumbler, whereby the proper pitch range of the tumbler is defined.
