An anvil for a wood chippern includes an anvil body having a top surface, a bottom surface, and longitudinally extending side surfaces between the top and bottom surfaces. At least one of the side surfaces is adapted to accept an insert shaped and dimensioned to fit into the adapted side surface of the body. Means within the body for firmly holding the insert in contact with the adapted side surface are also provided. The insert presents a leading edge functioning as the anvil's leading edge.
