A process for selectively reducing calcine from a copper/nickel containing sulfidic material includes subjecting the calcine to a mildly reducing atmosphere at relative high temperatures. CuO is selectively converted to Cu2O which can easily be separated by leaching from other metals which may be present in the material.

L'invention concerne une méthode de réduction sélective d'un calcinat d'un matériau sulfuré contenant du cuivre et du nickel. La méthode consiste à placer le calcinat dans une atmosphère légèrement réductrice à des températures relativement élevées. Le CuO est sélectivement converti en Cu¿2?O, lequel peut être facilement séparé par lixiviation d'autres métaux éventuellement présents dans le matériau.
