- 32 - Abstract The invention relates to a recombinant plasmid contain- ing at least one replicon (ori1), at least one selec- tion marker (sm1), at least one promoter (pr1) and DNA sequences from a pox virus genome flanking this pro- moter, a multi-functional DNA sequence cassette being arranged downstream of this promoter (pr1). This multi- functional DNA sequence cassette contains sequences which are complementary to commercially available primer sequences which proved their worth in practice, a translation initiation codon and several restriction endonuclese cleavage sites and stop codons in all three frames following this translation initiation codon. The recombinant plasmid according to the invention is excellently suited for the expression of foreign proteins in the cytoplasma of eukaryontic host cells after insertion into a pox virus genome.
