ABSTRACT APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR TESTING OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS A handheld test set including a microprocessor-controlled optical transmitter (17) and receiver (18) for testing optical networks such as star couplers. Light intensity reflected from a star coupler under test is compared with a stored value in order to indicate a pass or fail status. Test results are stored in a memory (21) for subsequent downloading into a database.
