ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION In a relief valve adapted to be received in a bore communicating with a pressure port and a suction port comprising: a cartridge adapted to be press-fitted into said bore, said cartridge having one end presenting a bearing surface and another end having an opening; a plunger disposed adjacent said opening for closing said opening in a first position and permitting access to said opening in a second position; a spring disposed between said bearing surface and said plunger for urging said plunger to close said opening in a first position and for permitting access to said opening in a second position; said plunger including bi-pass holes communicating with said ports and said opening when the plunger is in the second position.
