Disclosed is the preparation of 1,3,5-triazine carbamates which are suitable for use as cross-linking agents in curable compositions, particularly in coating compositions which are capable of curing at relatively low temperatures without releasing formaldehyde during cure. The process includes the step of contacting 1,3,5-triazine derivative having cyanate-displaceable leaving groups (i.e. cyanuric chloride), a cyanate-containing reagent (i.e. potassium cyanate), and an isocyanate-reactive compound such as an alcohol, in the presence of a polar solvent or in the presence of a non-polar solvent in combination with a phase transfer catalyst.
On décrit un procédé de préparation de carbamates de 1,3,5-triazine qui sont appropriés pour servir en tant qu'agents de réticulation dans des compositions durcissables, particulièrement dans des compositions de revêtement qui sont capables de durcir à des températures relativement basses sans libérer de formaldéhyde pendant le durcissement. Le procédé consiste à mettre en contact un dérivé de 1,3,5-triazine comprenant des groupes labiles à cyanate déplaçable (c'est-à-dire du chlorure de cyanure), un réactif contenant du cyanate (c'est-à-dire du cyanate de potassium) et un composé réagissant à l'isocyanate tel qu'un alcool, en présence d'un solvant polaire ou en présence d'un solvant non polaire en combinaison avec un catalyseur de transfert de phase.
