ABSTRACT Under study was the method of preparation of hybrid composites of silane coated mica/cellulose fiber (coated with polymer + isocyanate, silane, and grafted with a polymer) and polystyrene. The resulting hybrid composites can be exposed to various environmental conditions, e.g. exposure to boiling water for 24 hours and to heat at +105°C for 5 days as well as at a subzero temperatures (e.g. -20°C). Treated cellulose fiber/mica-filled composites show superior mechanical properties and dimensional stability even under most extreme conditions in comparison with those of non-treated cellulose fiber/mica-filled composites.
