Sialic acid derivatives represented by the following general formula: (see formula I) wherein R1 represents a residue of a steroid compound excluding cholestane and cholestene residues, R2 represents hydrogen or methyl group, R3 represents a C1-C6 alkyl group and other, R4 represents hydrogen or acyl group, R5 represents a group of R15O- (R15 represents a C2-C7 acyl group and other), and X represents oxygen or sulfur atom, and their derivatives. These derivatives have activating effect on choline acetyltransferase activity in the chlonergic neurons, and are useful for preventive and therapeutic treatment of dementia, memory disorder, peripheral nervous disorder and so forth.
L'invention porte sur des dérivés d'acide sialique représentés par la formule générale (1AA) ainsi que sur d'autres dérivés de cet acide. Dans cette formule, R<1> représente un reste de cholestane ou un autre composé stéroïde, R<2> représente un hydrogène ou un méthyle, R<3> représente un alkyle en C1-C6, etc., R<4> représente un hydrogène ou un acyle, R<5> représente R<15>O- (R<15> étant un acyle en C2-C7), etc., x représentant un oxygène ou un soufre. Ces dérivés, qui ont pour effet d'accroître une activité de choline-acétyltransférase dans les neurones cholinergiques, s'avèrent efficaces pour prévenir et traiter la démence, des troubles de la mémoire, des troubles des nerfs périphériques, etc.
