This invention describes a wooden wall construction and method of making the same for a wooden building. In particular, this invention provides for a wall construction which reduces the problem of gap formation between adjacent timber members caused by factors such as wood shrinkage and foundation movement. Upright timber members are provided with vertical grooves aligned so as to receive extensions from the ends of stacked horizontal timber members of uniform length. With the exception of the lower-most horizontal timber members, these members are not secured to the upright timber members so that they can move upwards or downwards within the grooves to accommodate shrinkage and settling factors. Preferably when settling of the horizontal timber members has occurred to a significant extent, the roof structure will then rest on the upright members.
