The invention relates to novel purine derivatives of general formula (I), in which R1 to R4 are as defined in the claims, the tautomers, stereoisomers, mixtures, prodrugs and salts thereof, in particular the physiologically- acceptable salts thereof with inorganic acids or bases which have useful pharmacological properties, in particular an inhibitory effect on the activity of the dipeptidylpeptidase-IV (DPP-IV) enzyme, the production and use thereof for the prevention or treatment of diseases or conditions related to an increased DPP-IV activity or which can be prevented or reduced by a reduction in the DPP-IV activity, in particular diabetes mellitus of type I or type II. The invention further relates to a medicament comprising a compound of general formula (I) or a physiologically-acceptable salt thereof and a method for production thereof.
