ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sideseam in a can body wherein the sideseam is of the lock and lap type and the body blank from which the can body is formed is so notched wherein at at least one end of the lock portion of the sideseam the hooks have sloping ends arranged in crossing relation. The lap portion is defined in part by a lap which is a continuation of an edge of the can body from which one of the hooks is formed with the lap being of substantially full width and height. The sideseam structure is particularly constructed for use in the forma- tion of a can body having a guard bead for underlying an end panel of an easy opening end and the specific sideseam configuration provides for increased resistance to stresses through the lock portion of the sideseam and reinforcement of the potential leakage path at the end-lock projection area of the sideseam.
